Book helps parents guide teens in exploring career path

A new book by Montcalm Community College Career Advisor Amy Zdanowski aims to support students and parents while exploring career paths.

“Kickstart Your Teen’s Career Exploration: Gain Career Coaching Knowledge and Empower Your Teen with Quick, Easy Activities to Find Career Direction,” is available on Amazon.

“The book is designed to help parents of teens and young adults who are undecided about a career path to explore,” Zdanowski said. “It teaches parents two career coaching strategies and provides activities for their teens to complete, along with guidance on how to apply the results. This helps parents and teens identify promising career paths that align with the teen’s natural inclinations.”

She said her own career development journey, along with her experiences and observations, inspired her share her insights in the book.

“The goal was to create a book that is short, simple, and effective at illustrating the connections between a teen’s natural tendencies and potential career paths,” she said.

The book is for parents of teens who are undecided about their next steps. It provides parents with insights and tools to help their teens find direction and move forward with confidence.

“I hope readers come away with a sense of empowerment and clarity,” Zdanowski said. “Parents should feel equipped with practical strategies to assist their teens in identifying career interests and work style preferences. I want them to understand that the journey is about finding a direction, not a perfect job, and that their support can significantly impact their teen’s future.”

Amazon has 54 reviews for the book, and 92% have a five-star rating.

“This book is a great way to assist the teen who doesn’t know what they want to do. It has activities for both parents and teens to help along the way. It tells you the six types of people and helps you figure out what type you are so it can help you get a job you will love. I recommend the book to anyone who wants to help their teen or teens who want some guidance to a great career,” one reviewer commented.

“The overall message of the book is that while parents can’t decide their teen’s career for them, they can provide a trustworthy compass for the journey,” Zdanowski said. “By focusing on personalized insights and practical strategies, parents can help their teens explore and gain confidence.”

The book is a quick read, and is available in print, ebook and audiobook formats. The audio version comes with a downloadable PDF of the activities and all formats are available at Amazon.com
