Centurion basketball to host Heroes Day Jan. 11
SIDNEY — The Montcalm Community College Centurions basketball teams return to their home court for their 2025 debut on Saturday, Jan. 11, honoring the heroes of our area for the occasion.
Centurion Athletics will host Heroes Day on Saturday, allowing all military veterans, first responders, health care professionals and their families free admission to the basketball games with a valid ID. This will be the second time the athletic department is putting on the event, with Heroes Day first appearing for a volleyball match in the fall.
“We ran this event previously during the volleyball season in an effort to build our fan base with a variety of spectators,” Redman said. “While we all may have different professional careers and interests, as long as we are all living in Montcalm County, we're Centurions.”
The local heroes in attendance will be acknowledged at half time for both the women’s and men’s basketball games. Saturday will mark the first Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) conference games for both Centurion teams as they square off against Bay College. The MCC women’s team (1-8) will tip off at 1 p.m. with the men’s team (6-8) following with an estimated 3 p.m. tip off at the gymnasium on the Sidney Campus.
Being able to honor the service men and women from the area is a prideful point for Redman and MCC Athletics and he’s excited to see the turnout for Heroes Day.
“We feel it is a great way to celebrate and honor our veterans, military, first responders and health care professionals,” Redman said. “They have put in countless hours of hard work and have sacrificed so much for us to enjoy our freedoms we have today.”
