Dr. Bradley Barrick named MCC's 7th president
Dr. Bradley Barrick has verbally accepted an offer to become Montcalm Community College’s seventh president.
During the Board of Trustees’ regular meeting on Tuesday, May 14, members voted 5 to 2 to offer the position to Dr. Barrick.
“I am truly honored and beyond excited to serve as the next president of Montcalm Community College,” Dr. Barrick said. “I would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the Board of Trustees for their belief and confidence in me and look forward to our partnership in order to accomplish the mission of our institution, while also making our community a better place.
“It is my hope that, as a leader who values relationships, I can help foster a healthy culture on campus and continue to promote a spirit of collaboration with administration, faculty, and staff in order to achieve student success,” he said. “MCC has a lot of momentum right now and I look forward to being part of all the exciting things that are to come.”
Board Chairperson Karen Carbonelli, Treasurer Kurt Peterson and Secretary Carol Dueling-Ravell served on the presidential search committee, which was also comprised of representatives from the community, and MCC’s faculty, staff and Foundation Board of Directors.
“Dr. Barrick convinced me that he has a passion for student success and for community colleges,” Carbonelli said.
Board Treasurer Kurt Peterson agreed.
“I believe Dr. Barrick is a solid, inspiring leader,” Peterson said.
“There is a certain charisma that comes across with Dr. Barrick,” Dueling-Ravell said. “That’s not something you can teach someone. He is a very intelligent person and seems to be practical and realistic.”
Dr. Barrick currently serves as Executive Director of Marketing and Public Relations at Rose State College in Midwest City, Oklahoma, which is a public 2-year college with annual enrollments of about 13,000. Dr. Barrick began his higher education career at Rose State in 2021 and previously served the college as its government liaison and as a professor teaching both in-person and online classes in topics such as marketing, public relations and public speaking. He also serves as a Chaplain with the Army National Guard.
The next step is for the Board of Trustees and Dr. Barrick to enter into a contract negotiation to finalize the terms of the agreement, with a tentative start date of July 1, 2024.
