March noncredit classes at MCC

Learn about suicide prevention, basket making, self-defense, beekeeping and more during Montcalm Community College’s March noncredit courses.

Embracing Renewal and Growth is the focus of this series of Yoga with Amy sessions. We will focus on alignment with a breath to movement slow flow class. This is perfect for beginners or yogis to slow down. Yoga students are encouraged to bring their mats, any props they might have and want to use, as well as water. A few mats and blocks will be available for use. This four-session class is from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesdays, March 5, March 19, March 26 and April 2 on MCC’s Greenville campus. The cost for all four sessions is $50.
Learn general skills in suicide prevention, cost-free, in this upcoming noncredit course taught by professionals from Corewell Health. QPR training teaches general community members to recognize and respond to mental health crises using the approach of Question, Persuade and Refer. The 1.5-hour training will include information on the unique challenges individuals face that can lead to stress, depression and suicide, examples of implementing each QPR component with someone at risk for suicide and information on how to help someone at risk of suicide. The class is on Wednesday, March 5, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on MCC’s Sidney campus. The cost is free but pre-registration is required.
Learn the basics of making a small, simple coiled basket using cord and raffia. At the first session, you will learn the basic technique, receive all the materials to work on your project and begin your basket. Participants will take their projects home and continue working on them. The second session will be held two weeks later, where you will learn how to finish your project. All supplies are included. The first session is Saturday, March 8, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, and the second session is Saturday, March 22, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Both sessions are at MCC’s Greenville campus. The cost is $35.
Choose one of two designs to create a heart with a beveled center during the Beginner Stained Glass Heart class. There will be different colors of glass to choose from an all materials will be included. This class requires standing for long periods of time. It is Saturday, Feb. 8 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus. The cost is $55.
A Community Sing is open to people of all ages and musical capabilities. Whether you’re a seasoned singer or just love to hum along, songbooks are provided, an the words will be projected on a screen. Non-perishable donations for The Food Source at MCC will be accepted at the door. Refreshments will be served. The event is Wednesday, March 19, from 6 to 9 p.m. on MCC’s Greenville campus. The cost is free, but pre-registration is required.
Learn the basics of from the confusing jargon that describes equipment to sources for buying equipment and keeping your first bees. The makeup of the colony and its yearly life cycle, setting up a hive, disease management and control and good resources for further study will all be explored. Also, sample several different types of honey to experience just how “sweet” honeybees can be. The class is Saturday, March 22, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on MCC’s Greenville campus. The cost is $40.
