Postseason bowling for the Centurions continued Friday, February 14, as they traveled to the Royal Scot Bowling Center in Lansing for the Region XII Bowling Championship.

While the men’s team have had an outstanding season up to this point, they took their lowest finish of the season on Friday, finishing sixth out of 10 teams with a pin total of 8,292. The women’s team placed eighth out of nine teams with a pin total of 4,490.

The competition on the men’s side was heavy, as the top three teams finished within 158 pins of each other through three singles games, three doubles games, two combined team games and four baker blocks. Mid Michigan College took the top spot in the region with a final pin total of 9,118.

Freshman Bradon Krohn (Fruitport, Mich.) and Cooper Hoskins (Portland, Mich.) led the Centurions in the doubles tournament with a combined three-game series of 1,101, placing them 15th. As a team, the Centurions’ top two doubles scores were 2,153, placing them seventh in the first part of the tournament. The Centurions fared better in the singles tournament, finishing with a score of 2,808 — fourth best among the 10 teams. Krohn led the group with a three-game series of 608 (196, 223, 189), placing 14th, while sophomore teammate Ethan Hopkins (Fenwick, Mich.) took 21st with a series of 578 (181, 201, 196).

In the combined team event, MCC totaled games of 965 and 896, while their four baker block totals were 376, 351, 373 and 370. Individually, Krohn had the highest finish for the Centurions in the All-Event standings, placing 18th with an eight-game series of 1,559.

The women’s tournament was a much more one-sided affair, with Jackson College running away with first place with a team total of 8,886 — over 1,000 pins better than second-place Mid Michigan College.

The Centurions were in a hole early after their doubles tournament score of 1,456 and singles tournament score of 1,430. Working with just three bowlers, the Centurions had the cards stacked against them but still managed to avoid last place. The doubles team of sophomore Zoey Guernsey (Ionia, Mich.) and freshman Madyson Hartman (St. Louis, Mich.) combined for a three-game series of 1,036, placing eighth overall. Hartman also led the singles tournament, finishing 24th with a three-game series of 494 (169, 166, 159).

The Centurions posted combined team scores of 454 and 514 and followed it up with baker blocks of 173, 180, 154 and 129. Hartman led the team in the All-Event scoring with a ninth-place finish after accumulating an eight-game series of 1,476.

The Centurions will now have a week off before heading to the NJCAA Bowling National Championships on Thursday, Feb. 27, at Airport Lanes in Cheektowaga, New York.
