MCC’s golf team wins the SC4 Invitational; volleyball drops two

 

Montcalm Community College’s men’s golf team placed first at the recent St. Clair County Community College (SC4) Invitational, and women’s volleyball dropped two during recent league action.

 

Golf recap

The Centurions men’s golf team competed on Friday, Oct. 4, at the SC4 Invitational at Port Huron Golf Club. The golf team secured another first-place finish with Ethan Johnson (75), Mason Blair (84), Zach Johnson (76), Ryan Clingenpeel (79), Landen Dougherty (74) counting toward the team score. Kenny Mitchell (79) and Jerald Brownell (77) golfed as individuals.

The victory at SC4 Invitational marked the fourth invitational that the Centurion golf team has won during the fall season.

Up next: The Centurions men’s golf team will play in the Henry Ford College Invitational on Oct. 11.

 

Volleyball recap

The Centurions women’s volleyball hosted North Central Michigan College on Friday, Oct. 4, and fell 3-0 with scores of 20-25, 21-25, 20-25. Leading the defense was Jaden Gomez who picked up 24 digs and Katelyn Bignall who recorded 2 blocks. Setting up the offense was Tiana Whitacre who recorded 24 assists. Leading the offense was Piper Groesser who recorded 10 kills and Jaden Gomez picked up 2 service aces. 

The volleyball team had a quick turnaround playing on Saturday, Oct. 5, at Delta College. The Centurions fell to the Delta College Ducks with scores of 25-11, 25-17, 25-13. Leading the defense was Jaden Gomez with 17 digs and Alanna Kent with 2 blocks. Jordan Dompreh tied her career high of 7 kills while hitting .208 to lead the Centurions. Jaden Gomez, Lily Bohen and Missy Gosslin also picked up a service ace.

Up next: The Centurions women’s volleyball team will travel to Grand Rapids Community College on Oct. 10.
