MCC’s men’s golfers lead the way in league play
Montcalm Community College’s men’s golf team recently took top honors in one invitational and second place in another.
The team competed in the Kirtland Community College invitational on Friday, Sept. 21,where the Centurions recorded a new program record team score, 295 leading to a first place finish.
The Centurions were led by Mason Blair and Zach Johnson, who both shot a 72 on the day. Followed by Ethan Johnson (73), Zach Johnson (78) and Ryan Clingenpeel (80). Both Kenny Mitchell and Landen Dougherty golfed as individuals for the Centurions and recorded 86’s.
The Centurions team score was 15 strokes better than Mott Community who was the runner up. In addition to Mott Community College, the Centurions competed against Delta College, Glen Oaks Community College, Grand Rapids Community College, Henry Ford Community College, Jackson College, Kirtland Community College, Muskegon Community College, Oakland Community College, Schoolcraft College and St. Clair County Community College.
The Centurions had a quick turnaround as they traveled to Fieldstone Golf Club to compete in the Oakland Community College Invitational on Monday, Sept. 23.
The Centurions took 2nd place at the invitational with a team score of 306, despite the rainy conditions. Both Mason Blair and Ryan Clingenpeel led the Centurions with a 75, followed by Zach Johnson (77), Jerald Brownell (79) and Ethan Johnson (87), Landen Dougherty (75) and Kenny Mitchell (83).
The golf team will be back in action Friday, Sept. 27, at Bay Valley Golf club for the Delta College Invitational, with a tee off time of 10 a.m.
