MCC Volleyball sweeps Alpena, falls to Great Lakes in four
The Centurion volleyball team played back-to-back matches this week. On Tuesday, September 24, they traveled to Alpena to take on the Alpena Community College Lumberjacks and on Wednesday, September 25, the team traveled to Lansing to take on Great Lakes Christian College Crusaders.
Against the Lumberjacks, the Centurions dominated the entire match sweeping Alpena 25-20, 25-19 and 25-22. All 14 Centurions contributed to the team's victory with Piper Groesser leading the way with 9 kills. Leading the defense was Aleyna Moleski who recorded 11 digs and Kelsey Antcliff with a block. From the service line, the Centurions recorded a season high, 13 aces with Tiana Whitacre recording 5 aces and Jaden Gomez recording 4. Setting up the offense was Tiana Whitacre who recorded 22 assists.
Wednesday night, the Centurions started off strong winning set 1, 25-15. The Crusaders came storming back holding the Centurions to a -.032 hitting percentage. In set three, the Centurions held the lead for most of the set, but eventually fell 24-26. In the fourth and deciding set, the Centurions fell 20-25. Leading the way was Piper Groesser with 11 kills. Setting up the offense was Tiana Whitacre who recorded a double-double, 35 assists and 15 digs. Leading the defense was Tiana Whitacre who recorded 1 block and Jaden Gomez, who recorded 24 digs and a team high 3 service aces.

The Centurions will take on North Central Michigan College at home on Friday, October 4, at 6:30 p.m. The theme for Friday's match is high school invite night. All high school students can attend the match for free.
