MCC's men's golf team wins Schoolcraft Invitational

 

Montcalm Community College’s men’s golf team took first place at the Schoolcraft College Invitational on Sept. 16 at Salem Hills Golf Club.

MCC’s Centurions recorded a new program record team score shooting a 300, six strokes ahead of runner up, Mott Community College. 

Head Coach Doug Harkema was pleased with the team’s play.

“It’s wonderful to see the hard work that these men have put in to start the season,” he said. “I’m excited at the potential of this team.”

Zach Johnson and Ryan Clingenpeel both tied for 2nd place overall shooting a 73. Mason Blair finished tied for 6th shooting a 75. Ethan Johnson and Jerald Brownell both tied for 14th shooting a 79 to round out the team score. Golfing as individuals were Kenny Mitchell tied for 17th shooting an 80. Carter Baker tied for 35th shooting an 85, followed by Landen Doughtery Tied for 41st shooting an 87.

The competition consisted of 57 golfers from Delta College, Henry Ford Community College, Jackson College, Kirtland Community College, Mott Community College, Oakland Community College, St. Clair County Community College, Schoolcraft Community College and Wayne County Community College.

The Centurions will travel to Grayling Country Club on Friday, Sept. 20, to compete at the Kirtland Community College invitational. The team will tee off at 11 a.m.
