Scott Pedigo to coach Women’s Basketball at MCC

Scott Pedigo, of Big Rapids, has signed on to coach Women’s Basketball at Montcalm Community College.

“I am excited about the opportunity and honor to lead MCC,” he said. “I take tremendous pride in developing basketball programs and players. I am thrilled to be able to start this program and align it for success and give the community a basketball team they can support and enjoy.”

MCC Athletic Director Hunter Redman is happy to have Pedigo join the coaching staff.

"Scott brings to us deep experience in both coaching and program development,” Redman said. “We are grateful to have him on our team as we work to build our women’s basketball program."

Pedigo graduated from Ferris State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in biology education with a minor in social studies. He played football there from 1996-2000. He later added an endorsement in special education.

He started his teaching career at Baldwin High School. He served as the Varsity Boys Basketball Coach from 2003-2014 and 2016-2017. He led Baldwin to more than 200 wins, three District titles, and four League titles. He was named Lake County Coach of the Year four times. He was also named Pioneer Dream Team Coach of the year in 2017.

He also coached AAU Girls Basketball from 2018-2024. He started a couple of independent AAU teams out of Big Rapids. During this time, his teams won 33 tournament championships.

He currently teaches at Big Rapids Middle School. He is married with two daughters. He likes to spend his spare time with his family. He spends a lot of time cheering for his daughters at their travel basketball and soccer games.

He is looking forward to building MCC’s basketball program.

“MCC is a great school with a tremendous opportunity to build a great basketball program,” Pedigo said. “With so many talented basketball programs in the area, it will allow MCC to add local players and build a community-based college athletics program. Fans can expect to see many local athletes that are playing for the pure love of the game. This will be a hardworking team that will pride themselves on playing tough defense and playing unselfish basketball.”
